Limnad is the micro sparkling project of Nancy Irelan, one of the foundational figures of the modern Finger Lakes (you may know her other label, Red Tail Ridge). With this project, Nancy is exploring a deeper history of the region, when sparkling wine felt like the obvious future of the Finger Lakes wine region, and taking its quality to new heights.
Nancy has been quietly experimenting with sparkling wine for the last 20 years, making incremental investments in equipment and technique towards making some of the most expertly crafted sparkling wines in the country. Like many of the best examples from California, these are not the crystalline transparent wines of Champagne. Rather, these wines all have a sense of varietal expression that makes them feel distinctly American. That is not to say that the wines are "fruity" but rather that you can there is incredible clarity and detail in the secondary and mineral complexity in classic cool climate Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Riesling in these wines, all married with an absolutely perfectly crafted mousse and delicate autolytic flavors.
All of the wines are hand harvested from estate fruit, whole cluster pressed, and made with a combination of free run juice and very light pressed juice.
